Abstract


A STUDY ON THE EXAMİNATİON Of NURDAĞI (GAVUR DAĞI) FOLK MELODİES

Osmaniye province, located in the upper Çukurova region in the Mediterranean region, is surrounded by the provinces of Hatay in the south and Gaziantep in the east and was established at the foot of the Amanos (Gâvur) mountains. This region, where Turkmen tribes lived a nomadic life for many years, is important for Turkish folk culture. Osmaniye is a city where the tradition of minstrelsy is kept alive. Dadaloğlu and Karacaoğlan are the most famous folk poets known in this region. Our study aims to examine the musical characteristics of the long airs (Bozlak), which is called Gâvur Mountain Havası in the province of Osmaniye. For this purpose, 19 long airs were collected from local artists named Abdullah Gizlice and Mehmet Erkoçak by going to the province of Osmaniye and the musical characteristics of Gâvur Mountain long airs performed in Osmaniye were evaluated by examining these long airs in terms of musicality.
